ALTERATION ATLAS

The Atlas of Alteration, edited by Anne J.B. Thompson and John F.H. Thompson, is a publication of the Geological Association of Canada. The volume is a compendium of 50 mineral contributions by numerous international authors.

It provides an introduction to the major types of alteration, referenced to the environment of formation and the relationship to ore deposits. It summarizes the more common alteration types and textures using color photographs of thin sections and outcrop/hand samples with short descriptions. Each color plate is complemented by text describing the illustrated alteration type, characteristics in outcrop, hand sample and thin section; related and accessory minerals; environments of formation; example deposits; references and explanation of the photographs.
