The bare fiber optic on the FieldSPec Pro spectrometer is capable of analyzing very small areas on a sample. When placed in very close proximity to the sample surface and appropriately lighted, 1-2mm spots can be checked. This capability allows for the analysis of rims on serpentine clasts.

The expanded plot of three serpentines shows the potential wavelength shift with composition between lizardite and antigorite, chrysotile. The pictures show Premier hand sample and the core is from C-14. They both show clasts, many of which are serpentine. Note the rims and zoning in the Premier sample.
